Week 3 by Kelly & Yasmin

Hi!

In week 3, term 1 we had a very busy week going swimming, making our student leader speeches and more! When we were going swimming we had swimming instructors. We learned how to scull and tread water, the help sign, a mushroom float and a slide entrance.

On Wednesday, it was VALENTINES DAY!! We also had WHANAU NIGHT!! At Whanau night all the kids showed their parents around the classroom, showed them their work and introduced them to the teacher. There was also a free SAUSAGE SIZZLE!

We had a great week!

WELCOME TO 2018

Hi everyone! 

My name is Miss Davenport, I am the teacher in Room 4 this year! I have taught many of the students already last year and I am looking forward to getting to know the new students in my class as this term progresses. 

Inquiry – This term our Inquiry concept is Identity, the students will be focusing on learning about themselves and their community. This year we have the TRS 50^th Jubilee and we will be looking into the history of our school. 

Library - Our library day is a Monday, at the moment we have been unable to check books out of the library but we should be able to do this starting next week! 

Swimming – This is a part of the curriculum here at Target Road and every student is required to take part in our swimming programme in term 1. Our swimming instructors last day was Tuesday 20th February so we will be continuing what we learnt in the pool to help us be safe around the pool. 

School Newsletter – This is a great way to keep up-to-date with what is going on at school and has important dates written in to make sure everyone is informed. If you do not receive this email already, feel free to let me know and I can forward your details on to ensure you receive this. 

Home Learning - At this stage we do not have an official homework sheet but will be keeping in touch with this in the next few weeks to ensure the students have a range of at home learning available. At this stage I have given every student a Studyladder and Sunshine Classics account that is accessible at home and their task for this week is to draw out our family tree. We are learning about Identity and our families are a big part of who we are!  

Class Blog - The students and I will be trying our best to keep up-to-date with the class blog each week, sharing what learning we have done and anything special that pops up along the way. So please keep checking, I will post notices up on the blog too! 

I am available each morning at 8.30 if you have any concerns – alternatively you can email me or book a time with me outside of these hours. I look forward to getting to know your child and family throughout the year and hope to form positive learning relationships between home and school.

Term 4 Week 1 with Daniel and Whetū

Monday was our first day of school, we were excited to come back for term 4 but missed our holiday!

We started our calendar art on Monday and they look cool.

Mandarin - This week we had a special Mandarin lesson with Lily and Room 3! We coloured in plastic plates because it is Chinese Language Week! It was suuuuuppppperrrrr fun and we got to take our plates home!

On Friday we had two new students - Joel and Yasmin-  join Room 4, we were really excited to have them for the rest of the year!

It was also Whetū's birthday on Friday, she turned 9! She brought in cookies and caramel slice to share with the class, they were delicious!!!!!!!

This is a really busy term and we have some cool, fun things happening this term. Daniel is super excited for EOTC week that is coming up in week 6! Whetū is excited for athletics that is coming up in week 5!

Week 10 with Sally and Tim

Hey everybody!

This is the last week of term 3!!!! Sally's favourite thing from this term was her ESOL teacher Mrs Seerup coming back! Tim's favourite thing was doing Senior Sport each week! This has been such a fast term and we are nearly done for the year :O

This week we had a mufti day to raise money for year 4 EOTC week later this year. We sold ice blocks to the whole school and raised a lot of money!!!

This week was Korean Language Week! Sophia's sister Jenny came into our class and shared their traditional Korean costumes with us. They are called Han bok. We wear them on special occasions like New Years Eve. 

We also started our individual inquiry! These are some of the finished products... 

This week's certificate goes to.... Ashlee!!!! 

In Mandarin we learnt how to say different occupations, we had lots of fun with Lily!! 

We have been doing a lot of different art projects this term. This is Sally, Sophia, Sarah and Summer's dance.

Week 9 with Lizzy and Balaaj

Hi There!!!!!!!!

This week is Lizzy and Balaaj.

In Inquiry we have been learning about the Vikings - who they are and where they came from which is Scandinavia. We have learnt and we found out where they raided, how they got there and using an atlas we could find where they came from. We used worksheets and looked at the countries and where they went to raid. We made a longship out of paper and learnt about all the parts.

Reading

We have been doing summaries, writing them and then publishing them. Each person in our groups Air and Fire had one/two chapter each to summarise. We are making sure we are putting in the main ideas, keywords, the beginning/middle and end, the setting, detail, main characters and what happened in the chapter. We are combining our chapters to make a book.

Tennis

This week we had Tennis on Monday! They had so much fun, Balaaj and I were away but they told us all about it! I (Lizzy) got sooooooo jealous!

It was Tim’s birthday on Wednesday! He was turning 9 years old and he has his best friend Ayron by his side. They are like brothers, they both like the Avengers, they both love drawing, they love playing Five Nights at Freddy's and love both love watching movies.

Thursday!

It was Mufti day on Thursday and everyone is in their clothes they wear at home. We all look like we are getting ready to go out to the mall and have ice cream. We are all in different colours and Zoe is so bright!

Mandarin

On Friday we did Mandarin, we are learning about jobs and how to say them in Mandarin - a cook, teacher, musician, scientist, writer and hairdresser.

Assembly

This week it was a senior assembly, Miss Davenport gave out two certificates this week. One to Kalina for settling into Room 4 and the other certificate was for Zavier for showing resilience and being a compassionate member of Room 4. Balaaj also got a certificate from Mr G for helping a junior student who fell over!

Week 8 with Kaleb and Onyx

Week 8

Hi

We had a busy week last week!

On Wednesday it was the Shared Learning night. Some parents came and looked at our learning! We showed them our Writing, Maths and Inquiry. It was a cold night but we had fun!

Last week we did Mandarin on Friday. We had to make Pandas made out of paper, it was a bit hard but also quite fun! We did this because it is a national animal of China. We cut out the the head, the inside of the head and body and the entire outside. Then we unfolded the piece of paper and coloured it in in vivid!

On Friday last week our school had a disco!!!!! There was an ice cream truck, glow-sticks, balloons, drinks, lollies and PRIZES!! Zoe won a prize for the best dancing, go ZOE! We had lots of fun, we danced to the music and with our friends.

On Thursday we got a new student to Room 4. Her name is Kalina, she is from Macedonia. Her favourite colour is Turquoise and her favourite subject is Maths. We are looking forward to getting to know Kalina!!!

Hiiiiiiiiii, 

We have been learning about Exploration and have been looking into the Vikings. They were traders, raiders and explorers. We have been finding out why they went exploring…. To find new land because their country is too cold and they need land for animals and crops.

They raided people’s towns to gain goods so they can survive. Their big ships were made so they can safely get to new countries.

In Maths, the Fractions group have been learning about fractions! In the Triangles group, we have been learning about multiplication.

Most of Room 4 went down and got food from the bake sale raising money for EOTC week!

For Writing, we are doing a journal. We have questions from Miss Davenport to write our answers. At the moment, we are publishing a few of these journal entries. Which is super fun!!!
